چکیده

Purpose: A silicone band was sutured anteriorly to the edge of the lateral rectus muscle neotendon during recession surgery in order to reduce and delay the reoccurrence after exotropia surgery. Methods: Collected data of 12 patients (8 males and 4 females), aged 7 54 years with diagnosis of constant manifest exotropia and mean angle deviation in primary position of 15,04 ̊ (sd 1,18) for near and of 13,23 ̊ (sd 0,71) for distance. All patients underwent surgical treatment consisting of lateral rectus recession and silicone band apposition in correspondence to the anterior edge of the lateral rectus muscle neotendon. Results: A substantial reduction of the mean angle deviation was observed in all patients after surgery. No adverse band-related effects were detected. Conclusion: The silicone band in the surgical treatment of manifest exotropia could be a valuable aid in delaying the relapse thanks to its physical and structural features and to its biocompatibility.

Consecutive exotropia following surgically corrected cyclic esotropia.

INTRODUCTION Cyclic esotropia is a rare form of strabismus consisting of regular intervals of esotropia alternating with periods of orthophoria in a rhythmic/cyclic manner. In the vast majority of cases, surgery appears to permanently correct the esotropia, with no sequelae after years of follow-up. We report a case of consecutive exotropia in a patient five years after bilateral medial rectus ...

[Intermittent exotropia: bilateral lateral rectus recession treatment and long term results].

PURPOSE To describe the long-term surgical outcomes of bilateral lateral rectus recession in patients with intermittent exotropia. METHODS Retrospective review of 18 patients diagnosed with intermittent exotropia between 1995 and 2005 who underwent surgical treatment in the Ramon y Cajal Hospital. RESULTS Of the 18 patients with intermittent exotropia, 50% were basic subtype. All of them un...

Surface Modification of Silicone Rubber Membrane by Microwave Discharge to Improve Biocompatibility

Wetability of biocompatible polymers can be improved by plasma surface modification. The purpose of this study was to surface modify an experimental poly (dimethylsiloxane) rubber (PDMS) material in order to improve its wetability and biocompatibility. Surface properties of the PDMS were characterized using contact angles measurement for wetability analysis. Samples of experimental silico...

Intermittent Exotropia: Management Options and Surgical Outcomes

Background: This paper reflects an effort to recreate a modern analysis of a 1985 study on surgical outcomes of intermittent exotropia. Post-surgical results are reported as functional, motor, cosmetic, and unsuccessful. Modern optometric approaches to management of intermittent exotropia are also discussed. Methods: A literature review of 17 acceptable papers (dating from 1990-2011) on the out...
